I was raised in a suburban subdivision. It was a good size lot but certainly not rural, although we could see cows off in the distance. Still, my parents never did much with gardening, other than flowers and shrubs. When I was 22 I married my wife Janet, and moved to a city house on a 25×75 lot. Not saying there weren’t some advantages raising 3 children with everything close by, but it felt so closed in. We could see the neighbor’s kitchen through our window. One thing good was that Janet’s family had a cottage on Lake Erie, in Canada. That was definitely rural, and we did spend time there and did some vegetable gardening there. After 32 years in the city house Janet passed away, suddenly. Since the children were all out of the house, I moved to different house in City of Lockport, NY. And after that I bought the house next door and remodeled it. Nearly 60 years in small lot city living. If I was ever going to get to the country it had to be now. So I bought the property in Burt 2015.
Pamela also spent her youth in city living. And when she moved out it was to city apartments and city houses. I met Pamela at work and we discovered we both had an interest in writing and become good friends. She was living in a house in the city, but she had done a great job of gardening with what space she had. After my wife passed, we went separate paths for awhile but reconnected in 2017. I could see just how much of a country-girl-at-heart Pamela was when she came up to the farm to visit. Everything seemed to click and we got married in 2019 and she moved to country with me. We couldn’t be happier.
Rounding out the family are our 5 cats and 10 chickens, all of whom you shall meet in our pictures and journey forward. Thanks for joining us.
